Petition to oppose the location of a Dollar General in the West Henrietta Hamlet

We the undersigned residents of the Town of Henrietta would like to express our concern and dismay to the Henrietta Town Board at the building of a Dollar General Store in the historic Hamlet of West Henrietta. This four corner area represents a significant part of the history of our town. The surrounding buildings of the proposed site are all 100-150 years old. In addition the New York State Department of Historic Preservation states "the subject property is directly adjacent to 5711 West Henrietta Road which is eligible for listing in the State and National Historic Registers of Historic Places. Additionally this property is within the boundary of a potential West Henrietta Historic District which is eligible for listing as one of the earliest settlement areas in Henrietta with an intact setting and many contributing 19th century buildings." We feel this commercial property would adversely impact the character and history of this unique hamlet and urge the Town Board to recommend a more appropriate site.

Update #55 years ago
Well it was decided at last nights Town Board Workshop, after much debate, that the Dollar General issue WILL BE VOTED ON at tomorrow nights Town Board meeting. We need to pack the house again and remind them of what the people want. It is an election year with the primaries in June so hopefully they'll listen. Please spread the word. Petitions are still being collected at 4495 West Henrietta Rd.

Your help is still needed!! The Article X vote was postponed last night due to some paperwork not being received from Dollar General as yet! Many residents spoke out against the proposed building site at the town board meeting last night.Keep spreading the word. Petitions will continue to be gathered until the issue is finally voted on and resolved. Thank you for your continued support.

Remember The Town Board will be holding an Article X vote on Wednesday, March 13th at the Town Board Meeting, starting at 7:00 PM in the Main Meeting Room at Town Hall. Article X of the Henrietta Town Code covers historic site preservation and includes Section 295-39 concerning construction on historic sites. applications to make any significant modification to a historic site must pass an up/down vote from the Town Board based solely on the potential negative impact to the historic site.
