Protect Children in War Zones: Tell Estonia to Join the Safe Schools Declaration

  • by: Paige D
  • recipient: Toomas Hendrik Ilves, President of Estonia

This petition has been updated to more accurately reflect the events that have taken place.

15-year-old Amina witnessed her classmate getting shot and killed right before her eyes, as she and other children fled from an extremist attack on their school in northern Nigeria.

Children are being targeted in war zones all around the world.

Schools around the world are being attacked by an extremist group that believe Western Education should be forbidden.  Human’s Rights Watch explains:

“Classes were cancelled indefinitely at Amina’s school following this attack by the extremist armed group Boko Haram, whose name translates as “Western Education is Forbidden,” and who have killed more than 600 teachers, killed and abducted students, and destroyed more than 900 schools in the past six years.

Boko Haram set fire to Amina’s school too.”

Safe School Declaration protects schools from attack during wartime; declaring and investigating such attacks as war crimes.  56 countries around the world have joined the Safe Schools Declaration to help protect children in their country.

Estonia should be the next country to step in and endorse the Safe School Declaration to help ensure the protection of children in war zones.

Please sign to tell the President of Estonia to join the Safe Schools Declaration and help protect children in war zones!

Dear President IIves,

I strongly urge you to have Estonia join the Safe Schools Declaration and ensure the protection of children's lives in war zones.
