DEMAND CONGRESS STOP VA's USE OF DOGS AND PUPPIES FOR MEDICAL EXPERIMENTS

In USA today, is a story about the VA tightens oversight of medical experiments on dogs after surgery failures, canine deaths in research projects at a VA facility in Virginia - finds that spurred a push in Congress to defund the experiments altogether. Nationwide, invasive experiments at three VA facilities are slated to include roughly 300 dogs, including six-month-old Beagle puppies. It involves SURGERIES on their BRAINS, SPINES and HEARTS which are painful and traumatic. All the dogs are KILLED when the research is complete. The experiments on these young dogs will continue unless Congress stops the research. The VA solution is to have top VA veterinary officials approve any research on dogs, and scientist will have to review proposed dog experiments more thoroughly. VA programs that conduct dog research will now be visited more frequently by their accrediting body. The VA claims that this research is necessary to offer seriously disabled veterans the hope of a better future.

Because of these findings, Capitol Hill is putting effort to halt VA dog experiments deemed painful for the dogs. Funding has been eliminated but the VA is pushing back and recruiting veterans groups to help persuade senators to not pass the measure.

We demand experiments using dogs and puppies be stopped now. The suffering and death of these dogs and puppies must end.
