In his State of the Union speech, President Biden called for billionaires to finally pay their fair share in taxes.
The richest .01% of Americans pay only around 8% in taxes, far less than the average American pays. Biden proposed taxing billionaires 25%, which would raise over $440 billion over the next decade.
This is a completely reasonable plan and we fully support it – but it's getting a lot of pushback from Republicans who are in those billionaires' pockets. We need to show that Biden's plan has strong support.
President Biden said it best: "No billionaire should pay a lower federal tax rate than a teacher, a sanitation worker or a nurse."
