Please sign and share this petition on all your media sites nationwide to bring this horrible condition to the attention of the public everywhere. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is actually going throughout the field of Wyoming, rounding up the wild horses in their natural habitat and handing them over to Wyoming officials. These animals are then sold to the highest bidder, a Canadian slaughterhouse. The Wyoming laws allow this to happen. We need to stop the sale of horses for slaughter in Wyoming and get laws changed to prohibit it!

How exhilarating to spot a herd of wild horses running in the fields or grazing on the tall grasses. Imagine the duties of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) who round up these gorgeous creatures on federal lands of Wyoming. The horses are then handed over to Wyoming officials for the purpose of selling the horses to the highest bidder, a Canadian slaughterhouse. The horses are literally sold to be killed for horsemeat!

BLM claims that the horses were not wild but actually abandoned animals without homes and the sales were previously broadcast prior. However, wild horses have been roaming throughout the West for more than 300 years and are protected by the Wild-Free Roaming Horses and Burrow Act. Either way, whether they are wild or displaced, it is absurd and tragic that the BLM would even think it acceptable to sell the horses to these Canadian slaughterhouses.

The BLM bans wild horses from being sold for slaughter. Anybody who adopts a wild horse from the BLM must agree to provide it a home. But it is acceptable to do away with horses they consider displaced or strays by selling them for slaughter? Some local ranchers and farmers have complained about these herds grazing on their properties but do not warrant killing them for food! Subsequently, on March 18 and March 19, a BLM contractor rounded up the 41 horses and handed them over to Wyoming officials. Within hours, the horses were sold for $1,640 to Bouvry Exports, a slaughterhouse based in Calgary, Alberta. This is so sad that laws allow this to happen.

Thank you for signing and sharing this petition worldwide in an effort to stop the BLM and the state of Wyoming from selling wild and stray horses for slaughter. Ban the sale to slaughterhouses and get these laws in Wyoming changed that permits such actions.

Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and State of Wyoming Legislators – It is difficult to understand why you think it is acceptable to round up stray and/or wild horses and sell them to companies in Canada for the purpose of slaughtering them for their meat! It is disgusting that your state laws permit such actions and these laws need to be changed to protect animals from abuse, cruelty, neglect, abandonment and, in this case, slaughter of horses. If they are indeed wild, let them live in their natural habitats and if they are strays, sell or adopt them out, don’t kill them! That is so inhumane and a horrifying practice. Change your laws and actions to protect the animals.
