Donald Trump is once again attacking our voting rights, and this time, he's using Secret Service to do it.
The Republican House snuck in a provision to the Homeland Security reauthorization bill that would allow Trump to deploy armed Secret Service agents to polling places and intimidate voters. The authoritarian ploy is a thinly veiled attempt suppress the vote under the guise of stopping in-person voter fraud — which has proven non-existent.
Such tactics are used in authoritarian regimes and were common in Jim Crow America where law enforcement was used to harass and assault thousands of would-be Black voters. We cannot allow this to become the norm again.
The Trump regime has shown a firm commitment to upholding the legacy of white supremacy that put him in office. Now Republicans want to use the the threat of violence to cement their power.
