Increase the quality of education in poverty areas

  • by: Penelope Carroll
  • recipient: To raise awareness and then send it to people in the government who have the ability to make changes

What signing for the petiton means:

-  agree that we need to improve education in lower income areas to limit social problems

- this will lessen police brutality

Where will it be sent or used: I will send it to Congress or other postitions in power to increase the quality and funding for education in lower income areas, increase graduation rates and spread awarness while also promoting the power of a quality education

I have a social activism project and I chose the connection between police brutality and education. It is important because most people are passionate about police brutality but don't understand the root of the cause isn't racist police. There are other underlying issues such as lack of a quality education. This creates poverty violence and many other issues.  If we can improve the quality of education and graduate rates, we can decrease the lack of brutality of the police.  I will sent this petition to Congress.

"Poverty and violence often intersect, feed one another, and share root causes. Neighborhoods with high levels of violence are also characterized by high levels of poverty, lack of adequate public services and educational opportunity, poorer health outcomes, asset and income inequality, and more" (Koehler).

  • "Educational failure is at the crux of cyclical poverty; we can't address one without the other" (https://www.stand-together.org/cycle-educational-failure/).
