"Zeus's Law"

Our sweet boy Zeus was shot Saturday afternoon 05/26/18 by a Hopkinsville police officer right in front of me. Miraculously, he has survived the shooting. He was shot in his left shoulder/chest area. The vets are concerned about nerve damage that may result in him never being able to use his front left leg correctly again. Amputation has also been discussed if Zeus has problems healing properly.

Zeus is doing okay and is showing signs of progress. While we are so grateful he survived, this is a situation that has happened all too often, and we are heart broken that our boy was one of the victims!

We will be taking legal action over this incident. We have multiple witnesses who have come forward who watched along with myself who know Zeus was NOT aggressive! As well as found that Zeus was shot at TWICE not once. The police claim an "attack took place" but there is no attack victim and their time frame DOES NOT add up.

Zeus was seen in our yard at 12:35 from my bedroom window where I was at the time getting ready for the day. He was shot around 12:40 and I called my husband at 12:44 to let him know he had been shot. That means Zeus would have had LESS than TEN minutes, to escape, attack. A phone call be made, the police show up and him be shot. That is impossible! My baby was done wrong! The officers on scene refused to give the name of the officer who shot Zeus as well as the badge number of the officer who fired. They also would not tell us who called or who the "attack" victim was.

I was also told to refrain from the use of my phone during the incident and the officers showed absolutely no sympathy or remorse what so ever while I laid and held my helpless baby, covered in his blood.

I was given no time to retrieve my sweet boy even after me seeing the officer pull his gun and saying "no don't shoot!" He never gave me or Zeus a chance.

We also asked why a taser was not used and the officers said "tazers don't work, and a bullet is easier to control" which is hilarious because the vet said looking at the trace of Zeus wound the officer was aiming for Zeus's chest and missed.. he had every intent of killing my baby.

We are so grateful he survived, but as his momma I am FUMING!

Zeus's story has been shared thousands of times, and heard all over the world which means so much to us. We hope it is continued to be shared! Not just for Zeus but for others like him! My goal by the end of this is to have a law enforced that officers are required to learn to properly handle animals of all sorts, before guns are used! There is absolutely no excuse for taking the life of a family member when there are other ways of defense! (Tasers, mace, etc.) These are all non lethal ways of defense that could be and should be trained so that animals, are given the fair chance!

I believe 100% that this is a world wide issue that NEEDS stopped. These animals do not have a voice, which means we as owners have to advocate for them! They deserve that! PLEASE join in being a voice for Zeus and others like him, and help get this new law enforced!
