Help the World Understand Drug Abuse, Act Now!

Drug abuse is an ongoing issue within the United States. Dating back to the 1800's, it has plagued America. There has been plenty of attention brought to the disease that is drug addiction. Although there is so many different resources and research surrounding drug addiction, there is still such a negative stigma surrounding it. As psychologists (with PsychologyToday) have found, with evidence to back it up, "Addiction affects the brain's executive functions, centered in the prefrontal cortex, individuals who develop an addiction may not be aware that their behavior is causing problems for themselves and others". With this, it should be understood that it is not within the control of the addict, or as simple as them just "quitting". Drug abuse requires more research and more ways for a person to reach out, without any shame or judgement. It is time to bring attention to the matter and find a way for drug abuse to be better researched, and better handled, in a way that leaves everyone feeling healthier and happier.
