Reverse the Decision for "Breeding Operation" Shiba Inu Dogs Rm of Ritchot

I am writing you to inform you of a resolution that was recently passed in the RM of Ritchot permitting the business operation for the purpose of breeding Shiba Inu breed specific dogs. Please find attached the resolution. To begin this resolution alone is riddled with spelling mistakes of the "owners". They are allowed to do so in a horse barn, the premises of the property must have a 4 foot high fence, puppies will on occasion be allowed in the home, and no more than 15 dogs are permitted at a time.

I have written to Mayor and Council my concerns in regards to the safety of the community as well as the risks associated with breeding this dog. Not intending to discriminate, but after researching this dog breed and speaking to breeders who are registered with the CKC, it is evident that this is a breed that requires much more care, attention, as well as knowledge and expertise than the average dog breed.

I have also reached out to the Chief Veterinary Office to see if there is any recourse through the Animal Care Act, and despite is being written within the Act, the Director of the office is not issuing licenses for breeding operations. It is up to whichever municipality to do so. They did however suggest contacting the Better Business Bureau to find out if they are indeed operating as a business.

The mayor informed me in his email response that there is in fact several dog kennels and breeders within their RM, and they didn't see a problem approving this one. (as to not discriminate.) I have asked the questions of who are the other breeders and kennels in the RM, when and who does inspections, what is the frequency of inspections. I also asked if these individuals are claiming to sell purebred dogs, as it is illegal to do so in any province in Canada without a license from the Canadian Kennel Club.

The purpose of this letter is to inform you, prepare you for the possible worse outcome that the province may end up with unwanted animals due to this risky business operation that was approved by mayor and council of the RM of Ritchot. I am also writing this letter in hopes to gain your support in efforts to appeal the resolution made by Mayor and Council, which was done with haste, the public was not informed appropriately (the mayor is currently investigating how the community was informed of the hearing), and the simple fact that the names are incorrectly spelled and perhaps other mistake are made within the resolution.

At this time, the only thing that is clear is that this business operation places a threat to the safety of the community, is a very bad precedent for inexperienced breeders to try to establish themselves in the Province of Manitoba and in the end it will be animals and community that will suffer the consequences of this endeavor.

I am calling on your support to sign a petition asking the RM of Ritchot to formally and undoubtably reverse the decision made on Resolution Number 20180244.
