Save the Animals

    October 4, 2017
    Dear Mayor Sandy Stimpson,
Mrs. Rose’s 2nd grade class, at Mary B. Austin, has been learning about endangered animals in our community. We have researched the Loggerhead Sea Turtle, the Snowy Plover, the Red Cockaded Woodpecker, and the Alabama Sturgeon. After we researched these animals, we found out why they are endangered.

    - The Loggerhead Sea Turtle is endangered because of pollution in the water, as well as, they are getting caught in fishermen’s nets.

    - The Snowy Plover is endangered because predators are being brought into their habitat.

    - The Red Cockaded Woodpecker is endangered because people are cutting down trees that they live in.

    - The Alabama Sturgeon is endangered because they are being over-fished.

Our class has several ideas on how to protect these animals from becoming extinct
    .
    - having signs around our community to make people aware that these animals are endangered
    - having a fundraiser to raise money to help protect these animals habitat
    - making a law to protect these animals
    - have a discussion with the community about these animals
    - make them a new home
    - make a commercial on TV telling the community to help protect these animals
    - putting a GPS on these animals to keep track of them
    - making a news segment on these endangered animals
    - reserve their habitats
    - have an endangered species day
We would really appreciate any help that you can offer to protect these endangered animals in our community.

    Thank you,
    Mrs. Rose’s 2nd Grade Class
