The Bali Starling is endemic to Bali and also the national bird of this country. It is a fairly large starling , its mostly white except for the tips of short tail and rounded wings which are black , the legs are grayish-blue and the heavy bill is grey or brown , this fascinating bird is classified as critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List, and is listed on Appendix I of CITES with less than 50 bird.
Threats are the illegal trapping in response to high world wide demand for cage bird trade , in the mid 1990's one Bali Starling was worth 2,000$ ,where an armed group stole almost all of the 39 captive individuals in the park because of repeated mismanagement and corruption, inter specific competition, natural predation and disease.
