"When the looting starts, the shooting starts." – a recently blocked Trump tweet. These famous words hark back to the Civil Rights Era, stated by segregationist politician and vicious white police chief Walter Headley, well-known for his brutalization of Black protesters.
Trump, a young man during the 1960's, knew exactly what he was recalling. But Trump's personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani appeared on Good Morning Britain and defended Trump's ignorance (as if the phrase wasn't violent without the history) and claiming Trump doesn't have "a racist bone in his body."
Add your name to tell TV networks to stop booking Rudy Giuliani and giving airtime to defenders of white supremacy and violence against Black people.
TV networks have the autonomous ability to choose which voices they validate with airtime. And bringing in opposing voices for "debates" still provides validation that any particular opinion is worth hearing.
Let's be clear: defending segregation, normalizing violence against Black bodies, and promoting racism through denial should have NO SPACE in our national conversation. And proactively choosing not to incite racial violence is a choice worth taking.
