Last year, housing prices in America skyrocketed by a staggering 18.4%, the biggest jump in 34 years, while HUD reported the number of Americans experiencing chronic homelessness rose by 15% from 2020 to 2021. That same report found that 6.3 million American households experienced a severe housing cost burden — paying more than half their income on housing — and that's not getting any better any time soon. Rental costs grew by a jarring 19.3% across the US in 2021, shooting up as high as 49% in some areas, like Miami.
