End Train Horn in Radburn Station- Demand Quiet zone

This petition will be presented to the Borough of Fair Lawn NJ and Radburn NJ to encourage the City to make obtaining a Quiet Zone for the Fair Lawn train corridor of the New Jersey Transit train line a priority. Federal Railroad Administration ("FRA") rules require trains to sound horns at all crossing (regardless of time) unless a Quiet Zone has been designated. Obtaining a designated Quiet Zone requires installing certain supplemetal safety measures ("SSM") at crossings in the zone until a target NSRT safety rating is achieved. The proposed Quiet Zone at issue would run between the Fair Lawn area. Trains currently run through the Radburn station area 8-14 times a day (including at least four times during the late night/early moring hours). The train horns are extraordinarily loud and disruptive to sleep, outdoor activities and general enjoyment of homes in the area. The residential population density in the Radburn train station area among the highest of any area in the Fair Lawn are where the trains run. This area is also contains properties with some of the highest tax assessments in the city. It is a proper use of city funds to implement the required SSMs and obtain a Quiet Zone for this area. Please join us in voicing support for the city establishing a Quiet Zone for the Fair Lawn/ Radburn area.
