Spanish Ministry of Health: ensure the supply of medicines for transgender people

Gender reassignment is a long and complex process: in addition to the surgery itself, this process requires a hard hormone replacement therapy that lasts several months. But now transgender people are finding even more added difficulties in Spain: the drugs mainly used for the hormone replacement treatment in gender reassignment processes are ceasing to be available in pharmacies.

The reasons are varied (lack of stock, breaking of patent agreements...) but the consequences are very clear for transgender people of our country: people lack of alternatives to properly continue the process of sex reassignment and, in the best case scenario, they need to buy alternative medicines that aren’t entirely appropriate and can be up to 17 times more expensive.

This situation is very serious for many people whose personal situation and sexual identity are being compromised. Although they are not included in the Social Security funded treatments, the Spanish Ministry of Health must urgently act to ensure an affordable supply of these medicines. Sign now this petition and help me get the gender reassignment process a little easier for people that need it.

Please, ensure an affordable supply of the medicines needed for gender reassignment processes.
