Urge the UN Security Council to STOP the Genocide in Darfur

We, the undersigned, are deeply concerned and outraged regarding the recent reports of egregious human rights violations in West Darfur, Sudan, particularly the killings, looting, and assaults carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and their allied militias.

The situation, as reported by Human Rights Watch, indicates an organized campaign of atrocities against Massalit civilians, with an estimated death toll ranging from 800 to 2,000 people. In addition, the UN Refugee Council reported that around 8,000 people have fled into Chad, joining the hundreds of thousands displaced by attacks in West Darfur. The gravity of the situation demands immediate and decisive action to prevent further atrocities and protect the civilian population.

We believe that the United Nations has a moral and ethical obligation to intervene under its Responsibility to Protect (R2P) principle. It is time to invoke this responsibility for the people of Darfur.

We demand that the United Nations Security Council:

1. Strengthen the UN's presence in Sudan, such as peacekeeping forces, to deter further atrocities and better protect civilians in Darfur.

2. Support monitoring of human rights abuses in Sudan to document violations, hold perpetrators accountable, and ensure justice for the victims.

3. Expand the Arms Embargo to cover the entire country and all parties involved in the ongoing armed conflict.

4. Impose targeted sanctions on individuals responsible for human rights violations, including RSF commanders Abdel Raheem, Abdel Rahman, and RSF leader Hemedti.

5. Support the ongoing International Criminal Court (ICC) investigation into crimes in Darfur.
