In Victoria, the maximum penalty is only $2,000 for cutting down a healthy tree without a permit. People in privileged positions will look at this fine and won't bat an eye to knock down a perfectly fine tree and there need to be fines of up to $25,000 to deter people from cutting down trees without a permit.
The fines need to be raised especially in large companies which chop down trees for financial gain and destroy the environment and natural ecosystems along the way. We've seen homes destroyed by rising sea levels all across the peninsula and at some point, in the next 50 years levels will rise to the point where thousands of people will need to move inland to escape it.
The culture of environmentalism is at its most important in acting as we've already seen terrible fires in the amazon and increased fires all across the globe and if we keep letting these companies destroy the environment, we'll have to start buying air which is ridiculous. Australia is the 11th biggest country committing deforestation with 2 hectares of natural Aussie land wiped out every day and we need to raise fines and spread awareness in this issue. The parliament needs to control this issue by putting in strict laws and maximum land clearing when it comes to the industry and culture of logging.
