WE NEED MORE RESOURCES TO COMBAT ANIMAL CRUELTY & NEGLECT! Animal Cruelty is well documented as a Gateway behavior for escalated future crimes. When we don't put appropriate resources towards prevention or enforcement for Animal Cruelty laws, we FAIL those future victims of other often violent crimes.
The Pandemic has wreaked havoc on our lives, livelihoods, safety, shelter, etc. Government budgets are negatively impacted due to closures and decreased tax revenues. These are Historically Challenging Times😔. People are pushed to & beyond their limits emotionally & financially.
At a time when Domestic Violence AND Animal Cruelty is INCREASING*, services to to prevent this Violence & Abuse, resources and staffing for investigation & Enforcement is DOWN. Now is Not the time to cut budgets or reduce staffing in areas where interpersonal Violence or Animal Cruelty is occurring & is on the Rise. Animal cruelty is often the precursor to interpersonal Violence. Animal cruelty is the Canary in the Coal mine! We cannot cut budgets where Animal Cruelty is addressed (prevention & enforcement). If we prevent cruelty or hold abusers accountable we may be preventing a child or other victim from being abused or worse.
We need all Animal Control agencies at full staffing and properly trained & equipped.
We IMPLORE Sheriff Lombardo to Immediately Restore the Felony Animal Cruelty Unit to TWO Full time Detectives.
IDEALLY: Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak or NV Attorney General Aaron Ford would establish a Statewide Animal Cruelty Unit so Animal Cruelty would get the resources & attention it deserves and there would be uniformity in resources, enforcement and punishment. Animal Cruelty takes many forms and can include other violent & depraved crimes ( ex. dog fighting,Cock fighting, illegal gambling, gang activity, illegal import & sales of sick animals, illegal trade of exotics, etc).
