Please sign and share this petition worldwide to ask Canada to implement better policies at the Chilliwack Cattle Sales, one of the largest dairy farms, where 8 employees were recently fired for severely abusing cows and calves. The abuse was noted when owners viewed a disturbing undercover video as presented by the non-profit group known as Mercy for Animals Canada. Please sign and share to stop the abuse of the cows now and in the future of this company.

Just recently, a video was taken undercover by the Mercy for Animals Canada group and placed by a former employee of the Chilliwack Cattle Sales company, depicting the dairy cows and calves being whipped and beaten with chains and canes, as well as punched and kicked. The video also shows dairy cows suffering from open wounds and injuries, and being lifted by their necks with chains and tractors.

A spokesperson for Mercy for Animals alleges the company failed to provide adequate training or respond to the concerns raised by their undercover member before the release of the video, and states "Our investigator was not provided with adequate training or supervision. In addition, he repeatedly brought his concerns to company owners who failed to take any corrective action. The company allowed animal cruelty to flourish on its watch. "It's terrible to actually say but it looks like the abuse was very intentional on the part of these abusers, whether it was inflicting pain and suffering simply for the sake of it ... very terrible and shocking."

The full story and disturbing video can be accessed at http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/chilliwack-cattle-sales-to-fire-8-workers-caught-on-tape-abusing-cows-1.2670098?cmp=rss The company is a family business run by Jeff Kooyman and his brothers who are currently under investigation. Mr. Kooyman has taken immediate action when the video went public and claims he had no idea of what was occurring during the night shift at his company and vows to do something regarding training and company policies that will eliminate any further abuse of animals at his dairy farm.

B.C. Agriculture Minister and the B.C. Dairy Association; Owners & Representatives of the Chilliwack Cattle Sales Dairy Farm - We commend you on taking immediate action regarding the abuse your cows and calves have endured. This is very disturbing and should never occur again. Please ensure that all your present and future employees are thoroughly trained on the proper humane way to handle the animals, implementing specific retribution if and when anyone crosses the line. Along with new, stringent policies, fully enforced, it would be wise to implement your own cameras throughout your facility to be aware of the treatment of the animals and proper care by the employees you trust with their care.
