Donald Trump just got another green light to grab more power.
The Supreme Court has now backed Trump's firing of a Democratic member of the Federal Trade Commission, wiping away a 90-year-old precedent that helped protect independent agencies from being turned into political playthings.
And just like that, they are now political playthings.
That matters. Independent watchdogs are supposed to protect the public from corruption, corporate abuse, dangerous products, labor violations, and political interference. They are not supposed to be purged whenever one president decides they are insufficiently loyal.
This is exactly how checks and balances get hollowed out. Not all at once. Not with one dramatic announcement. But piece by piece, ruling by ruling, power grab by power grab.
Congress cannot just shrug while Trump tries to turn independent agencies into personal loyalty machines. Congress can turn precedent into law. And for the sake of the nation, they need to do it ASAP.
Tell Congress: Stop Trump's latest power grab and restore real protections for independent watchdogs.
