Save Our Seafront - Object to the 82,000sq ft Tesco superstore at the Arlington site, Margate

  • by: Louise Oldfield
  • recipient: The Rt Hon Eric Pickles MP, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government
• TOO BIG The proposed Tesco Arlington is four times larger  than Tesco in Cliftonville, it’s the WRONG size in the WRONG place

•TRAFFIC  CHAOS  Council leader Clive Hart has said, " I'm on public record, I stand by what I said, I voted against it because the traffic that will be generated by a Tesco's out there on the seafront will actually force the seafront to be a traffic jam from day to night. '' (August 17th BBC Kent Radio)

•SAVE OUR SEAFRONT  - The developer has admitted there will be at  least  17,000 extra car movements entering and leaving on a Frid/Sat alone – Sunday traffic is one of the busiest shopping days - bringing even more traffic – all delivery lorries will have to use Margate seafront

• LOSS OF ALL DAY PUBLIC PARKING    Over 500  public coach and car parking spaces needed for visitors to Margate  will be lost forever

•DEVELOPERS   The Developer has deliberately neglected the Arlington site for decades and driven businesses out.

•BUSINESS   Mary Portas says, “Definitely not a big Tesco on the seafront.” (Aug 23rd 2012) Local jobs and family owned shops will be lost. (Margate Ind. Traders)

We the undersigned object to the development of an 82,000 sq ft TESCO superstore at the Arlington site :
