Re: The Family Courts of North America

The Family Court System has lost sight of their primary goal: to protect our children. The courts are too focused on being quick and fair with 50/50 custody splits instead of focusing on what is best for the children. This isn't about Mothers' Rights or Fathers' Rights- it is about the rights of our children to live in a safe, healthy and nurturing environment.

I dispute the notion that an individual should have "rights" just because they were able to procreate. Just because someone has the ability to procreate shouldn't automatically give them parental rights. Every child in America has the RIGHT to be safe, loved and protected. A child's rights should trump parental rights. While that sound like common sense, it is not what is currently happening in the family courts across America.

Our appointed Judges and Commissioners are not taking the time to properly evaluate high-conflict child custody cases. Most high-conflict custody cases involve at least one Cluster B personality disordered (Narcissistic, Antisocial or Borderline) individual. Judges are too focused on moving the cases through the courtroom like cattle. I believe that our judges, commissioners, mediators, custody evaluators and attorneys need to receive ongoing education about high-conflict divorces and Cluster B personality disorders. The time to become educated starts now. The system has failed Susan Powell and her young sons, Charlie and Braden Powell in a tragic way. The system failed Kelly Rutherford and her children. The system failed Connie Camara and her two young children, Juliana and Julian. The system failed Ana Estevez and her precious son, "Piqui." These families all share common denominators: the Family Court System. I ask for changes now before additional families are failed. Cluster B personality disordered individuals are dangerous and we continue to see the tragic outcomes of their actions.

Our children's lives rest in the hands of Family Court professionals. As healthy parents, our hands are tied by a very broken court system yet we are dependant on this system to help us protect our children. Please implement changes such as ongoing education for every person who has a hand in deciding the fate of a child. Diagnosed (and suspected) narcissists (narcissistic personality disorder) and sociopaths (antisocial personality disorder) often receive 50/50 custody rulings simply because there is no education on what this diagnosis actually means in a parenting or co-parenting situation. Our Judges and Commissioners need to be educated on personality disorders so they can do their jobs properly. Our custody evaluators, professional supervisors, therapists and co-parenting counselors need to stop the revolving door of corruption. Many of these "professionals" who claim to be "friends of the court" are actually part of the problem. Many are riddled with bias and continue to pad their wallets with money – they have no desire to truly do what is in the best interest of the child. Many have become calloused and have lost sight of what is important – protecting children and acting in their best interest.
I greatly appreciate your time and attention to this serious matter. It is my goal to ensure that children's rights are placed as a top priority in courtrooms across America.

Sincerely,

Judi Atwood
