Engineer Students to Receive General Studies Associates?

Are you a student or know someone looking to get an engineering associates from Valencia College? Well you’re out of luck. New policy has shifted in the way one earns an engineering degree at Valencia. Suppose one signs up to attend Valencia in wanting to pursue an engineering associates, one would expect an engineering associates. Turns out they are only going to be receiving a general studies associates. The policy now states that if a student were to surpass 60 credit hours they would automatically be switched into recieving a general studies associates. The problem is, the engineering catalog has always had more than 60 credit hours. The students of Valencia have just been notified about this right before finals and for those who have this very last week before graduation are out of luck. Turns out they too have to graduate with an associates in general studies. This is very upsetting since those who want to pursue engineering are taking classes that general studies have not. This in itself is an issue. Working towards a difficult career path to be promised an associates with the title of engineering and just to be given a general studies associate. The actions of this policy shouldn’t be punishment for those who have already been pursuing this career and should be taken into action for new coming freshmen. This way everyone is not continuing their education with a false end goal. This is a horrible decision on many levels and feels like a slap in the face to these hardworking students looking to receive more than just a regular general studies associate.
