Florida's Crazy New Law Seeks to Religiously Indoctrinate Children in Public Schools

If Florida students didn't know their state motto before, they will now. The motto — "In God We Trust." — will now be plastered all over the schools in "a conspicuous place" as required by a new law passed by Governor Rick Scott last March.

The law requires all schools to display the motto without exception so — as the law's sponsor Rep. Kimberly Daniels says — "...our children will be exposed and educated on this great motto, which is a part of this country's foundation." Kimberly, who runs a Christian ministry, is blatantly pushing her private religious agenda into the public sphere.

Needless to say, this law is ridiculous and unnecessary. The state motto — which was only adopted in 2006 — is already on the state flag and seal. Florida children clearly already know what the motto is without having it hammered into their heads like some sort of indoctrination.

So now, instead of focusing on the plethora of problems facing the state, including the opioid crisis, environmental threats, and others, Scott wants public schools to waste valuable time and money plastering these 1984-like posters all over their walls.

Tell Rick Scott he needs to come to his senses and get rid of this draconian law. Sign the petition.
