Nestlé, a multinational company that promotes corporate ownership of global water supplies, wants access to millions of gallons of our clean, safe drinking water in order to sell it at a 300-2000X premium in exchange for about 50 jobs that may or may not materialize (and will, if Nestlé fully automates its plants, disappear in time). In exchange we assume the risk of losing ground water in times of shortage and will bear the environmental burden of Nestlé's profitable extraction of our resources.
We, the undersigned citizens of Spring Township and neighboring communities, respectfully request that our water, including all of the Spring Creek Watershed, not be compromised by massive withdrawal by commercial enterprises, not limited to, but including Nestlé Waters, for the sole purpose of bottling and reselling.
We believe pure water is our right as is guaranteed under Article 1 Section 27 of the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and that it is to be preserved as a birthright for future generations.
Therefore we are requesting that the Spring Township Water Authority and the Board of Supervisors of Spring Township reject the application of Nestlé Waters for withdrawal from our water supply and the building of a bottling plant.
In this precarious time of climate change it is our obligation, and yours, to protect our water supply and assure its purity and availability for future generations.
