Petition for Dartmoor National Park Authority to appeal the High Courts ruling on wildcamping

Wild camping on dartmoor
On the 12th December 2022, the High Court heard the case of Darwall Vs Dartmoor National Park Authority. The court sat for two days and heard evidence from both parties.
On Friday January 13th 2023, the judge returned a verdict that extinguished the historical right to wild camp on Dartmoor, without express permission from landowners.
Dartmoor national authority met with The Dartmoor commons owners association, and have agreed a undisclosed financial settlement to continue to allow permissive wild camping in certain areas on Dartmoor.
This is purely a permissive basis, and it is on a year by year contract that can be removed by landowners at any point.
Also the agreement is purely based on the assumption that DEFRA will agree to pay the extra funding for the national park to pay landowners.
We believe this is unlikely.
Dartmoor national park authority accounts show a year on year budget cut by Central government (DEFRA) to the parks funds,
It also shows DEFRA will only be making a 3.1% spending increase this financial year, across it all the sub sectors it handles.
The proposal by Dartmoor national park authority would also set precedent for other National parks to apply for the same financial benefits, which DEFRA simply could not afford in its current state.
Therefore we believe any request for funding will be denied.
Which ultimately will bring us back to the beginning of the entire process.
We the Dartmoor wild camping action group pledge to stand against the absolutely atrocious decision by The Dartmoor national park authority, to concede to the whims of wealthy landowners on Dartmoor.
This is why we call on Dartmoor National Park Authority to appeal the High Courts ruling, in the court of appeal.
We offer our services as a collective group in creating funding for this appeal. Using a crowd funded platform, we offer this as a way forward in the restoration of this historic right.

We are also using this petition to prove there is support for this crowdfunded method of support.

This Friday the 27th January 2023 this petition will be handed to the national park authority in person.
