Oppose Lawsuits That Shift Parental Responsibility Onto Gaming Companies

We, the undersigned, oppose ongoing legal actions that attempt to hold video game companies responsible for alleged gaming addiction in minors.
While we recognize that excessive gaming can be a concern, it is ultimately the responsibility of parents and guardians—not private companies—to monitor, guide, and regulate children’s behavior, including screen time and gaming habits.
Video game companies provide entertainment products intended for a wide audience. Parents have the tools and authority to:

    Set limits on usage
    Monitor content and playtime
Control access to devices and purchases
Shifting this responsibility onto companies undermines the essential role of parenting and creates a dangerous precedent where personal accountability is replaced with corporate liability.

Additionally, these lawsuits risk unintended consequences, including:
Stifling innovation in the gaming industry
    Creating unnecessary regulatory burdens
Impacting jobs and economic stability in a major global sector
We support responsible parenting and informed consumer choice. Rather than penalizing companies for user behavior, efforts should focus on education, parental involvement, and existing tools that empower families to make decisions.
We respectfully call for the dismissal of legal actions that place parental responsibilities onto gaming companies.

Signed,
    Rachel Derrick
