Petition to Oppose the Killing of Feral Cats

Petition by Shadow Cats Rescue and Street Cat Rescue of Round Rock, Texas

A feral cat is an un-socialized cat.  Without intervention, breeding and overpopulation can quickly become out of control.  Through Trap, Neuter and Return, cats are sterilized and vaccinated, halting the endless cycle of breeding and keeping them healthier, especially when caretakers are allowed to feed them daily. Feral cats are then allowed to live their lives in the only home most of them have ever known- outdoors.

More feral cats in the US are intentionally killed than die of any other cause. But this does not have to be the case. Virtually every feral cat that enters a shelter or animal control facility is killed. The very system that is supposed to care about the welfare of animals is, in fact, subjecting them to a policy of extermination.

Funded by taxpayer dollars for generations, these inhumane programs have proven themselves ineffective in controlling the over-population of cats.
Cities that have implemented the Trap/Neuter/Return program have seen significant decreases in animal intake at their shelters.  It also costs taxpayers less money to neuter and vaccinate a cat, than it does to euthanize it and dispose of their body.

TNR is the ONLY humane solution that works!

Help us Change the Current Round Rock, Texas City Ordinance to allow Trap/Neuter/Return and not hold citizens liable, just because they feed feral cats.

Support Trap, Neuter and Return In Round Rock, Texas

Cats are intelligent living creatures that, like all creatures, deserve to be healthy and happy. I support the humane treatment of all cats, including those that are unsocialized.

I want the killing of feral cats to stop! And I pledge to do one or more of the following:

- Call my Mayor and urge her or him to support
TNR for feral cats in my town.
- Learn more about humane management of feral cat colonies by receiving information from Alley Cat Allies or Shadow Cats Rescue.
- Share what I have learned with my family and friends, so that they can also help protect feral cats.
- Become a feral cat caregiver and learn the humane Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR
) technique.
- Talk to my veterinarian about providing low cost spay/neuter services for feral cats.
- Write a letter to the editor of my local newspaper.
