Heath Ledger's performance as The Joker in this summer's "The Dark Knight" is a masterpiece of acting craft for the ages. Universally praised by critics and audiences; Ledger's shocking and indelible performance is a truly remarkable achievement in cinema and wholly deserving of recognition as the best of the year in the Best Supporting Actor category of this years Academy Awards.
But due to the summer blockbuster status of the film, and the Academy's scarce history of posthumous award nominations, recognition is not an easily assured thing.
That's why it is important to let the nominators know how much the public at-large appreciates and admires Heath Ledger's unique acting talent and his transcendent role in "The Dark Knight" By signing the petition, we are sending a message to the Academy that we, the audience, should be heard and appreciated.

We the undersigned are petitioning you on behalf of Heath Ledger's brilliantly realized performance in the Warner Brothers release; "The Dark Knight".
We wish to bring his performance to your attention for consideration in this years' Best Supporting Actor category. We are concerned that due to the summer-action-blockbuster nature of "The Dark Knight", Ledger's outstanding achievement may be overlooked in favor what might be considered more "serious" works. Though we recognize that Mr. Ledger is portraying a comic book super villain, we hope the Academy will overlook the context of the character and admire the content.
The members of the Academy have done a remarkable job of celebrating and honoring truly gifted performers in the past and we sincerely hope that this year, Heath Ledger will be among them.
