Punish Mississippi Dogcatcher to the fullest extent of the law.
In January 2010 Canton, MS dogcatcher Alonzo Esco was accused of shooting over 100 dogs and dumping their bodies in a remote creek instead of taking them to the local shelter. In July 2010 Esco was formerly charged with five counts of animal cruelty and four counts of illegal dumping.
Yesterday, August 11, 2010 he plead guilty to ONE count. Sentencing is set for Oct. 13, 2010. He only faces a maximum $1,000 fine and six months in jail on each count because Mississippi is one of only 4 states in the United States where there are no felony animal cruelty laws in effect. We are demanding that Alonzo Esco be punished to the fullest extent of the law.
We the undersigned demand justice for the over 100 innocent dogs entrusted to county employee Alonzo Esco's care who were shot and killed and then dumped in the Canton, MS area. This act was unconscionable, cowardly and demonstrates an utter lack of respect and honor in his position as a trusted public servant. We respectfully request that Madison County, MS Judge the Honorable Tommy Faulkner and District Attorney Michael Guest ensure that Alonzo Esco be punished to the absolute fullest extent of the law.
