Bring NHL Hockey Back To Connecticut!

  • af: Matt Boland
  • mottagare: Mr. Gary Bettman, Commissioner, NHL; Hon. M. Jodi Rell, Governor of Connecticut
This is a petition to return NHL hockey to the state of Connecticut.  In 1997, Hartford Whalers owner Peter Karmanos (also of CompuWare fame) moved the Whalers franchise to North Carolina, where they would become the Carolina Hurricanes.  Eleven years and one Stanley Cup later for Carolina, Connecticut is still without a NHL franchise.  That could change soon, though....Atlanta, Phoenix, Florida, and Nashville are all having trouble getting fans in the seats.  And who wants to see a hockey game in a warm weather city anyway, albeit in the middle of a desert?

But I digress....I am told that the CT Legislature is considering funds for a new arena in Hartford.  Let's show them, and Commissioner Gary Bettman, that we want to make this happen!! My goal is one thousand signatures, at which point I will forward this petition to Bettman and Governor Jodi Rell.  Sign this petition, and tell your friends and neighbors to sign too.  WE CAN DO IT!!
We, the undersigned, urge the National Hockey League to work with the State of Connecticut to bring a NHL team back to Hartford (preferably through relocation of an existing franchise or league expansion) as soon as possible.  We believe that a new arena can, and should, be built in Hartford for this endeavor.  It's been more than ten years since the Whalers left town....the time for NHL hockey in Hartford is now.
