Tell Priests, Don't Ban LGBT Community from Communion
After delivering a eulogy at her mother's funeral, a grieving woman was denied Communion by the attending priest.
A friend's published report says the priest told her he could not give her Communion because she lives with a woman, and "that," he said, "is a sin according to the church."
One must wonder if this priest reads the Bible on which Catholicism is based or considers the reputations of those who received the first communion. Does he think that Judas, for example, was without sin?
Even if the priest considers same sex relationships to be sinful, what about Bible references that say all have sinned? Would there be a need for the Catholic Church, which regularly accepts confession of sin, if "sin" wasn't common among us all?
What of the sin of denying grace and compassion to a grieving daughter?
Tell Saint John Neumann to End this Unloving Discrimination Against the LGBTQ Community.
We, the undersigned, believe that loving or living with someone of the same sex is not a sin.
But if the Catholic Church sees it as sin, it should at least not discriminate against one sin versus another or against those who commit sin. As the Bible says in Romans 3:23, "...all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God."
If the Catholic Church bases its actions on those of Jesus, then it seems it and its representatives would follow Jesus' example of offering bread and wine to all His disciples, even to Judas Iscariot, whose sin the Catholic Church certainly would consider grave or mortal.
We believe it is wrong for your priest to deny a grieving daughter this Holy Sacrament and to withhold from her compassion and comfort at such a time.
We request that your Church and your priests stop this discrimination against the LGBT community.
Thank you for understanding our concern over this unloving conduct by one of your priests.
