Bar 25, one of the worlds most important and influential music destinations, is in danger of being expelled from the Berlin social scene due to redevelopment plans along the River Spree.
Save Bar 25 seeks to preserve and protect the area of Holzmarktstra%uFFFDe, ensuring Bar 25 continues to foster creativity and expression without the threat of eviction.
For years, the city of Berlin and Bar 25 shared much in common. Berlin has long been known as an avid supporter of all things artistic and creative. Yet now, when perhaps this community is of the utmost importance, the city seems content to sell short many of the unique destinations that have made this city what it is today, in the name of capitalist redevelopment.
We cannot allow this to happen.
This petition is has been created to show the overwhelming opposition towards redevelopment along the River Spree at Holzmarktstrasse. Bar 25 is threatened by the MediaSpree redevelopment project that seeks to establish telecommunication and media companies along a corridor of the Spree River in Central Berlin. This project is one of the biggest and most ostentatious urban renewal projects ever attempted in Berlin and undermines the cultural integrity the city has long stood for.
Specifically, it is the Spree Urban section of MediaSpree that endangers the area of Holzmarktstra%uFFFDe, home of Bar 25.
The Spree Urban development aims to replace this legendary music shrine with offices, retail outlets, a hotel and luxury apartment units.
Despite fierce opposition, development in this area has already begun and Bar 25 faces an uphill battle to remain exactly where it belongs.
Bar 25 is much more then just another bar along the river. It is one of the world premier electronica venues, record labels, and communication mediums. Bar 25 has long been one of the most prominent and important destinations in the Berlin entertainment scene. The ability of Bar 25 to be able to foster creativity and expression, by uniting like minded people of all backgrounds, if something purely unique and must be protected.
TWe the undersigned, collected through this petition, all believe that Bar 25 must not only be spared eviction, but should be protected as an important part of Berlin culture.
