Ferrets are legal in 48 states - Californians want our pets legalized.

If you love animals and love your pets, then please sign this petition.

Ferrets are the 3rd most popular pet after dogs and cats. Ferrets are legal in 48 states. They are not legal to have in CA. Ferrets are not fish, nor game. The Department of Fish and Game won't listen to us. They can change this law but ignore us. Would you want your loving pets taken away from you?

Ferrets are domesticated and have been for over 2,000 years. Vets can treat ferrets in CA and pet stores sell ferret supplies yet we are not allowed to have ferrets in CA.

Ferrets are not Fish nor Game. A ‘mistake’ in a law 70 years ago made ferrets illegal in California. The Department of Fish and Games has decided that ferrets are wild life and they will go feral. NOT true! They would never survive outside. The fact is, DFG just doesn’t care about us... A commissioner was recently seen holding a mountain lion he killed and was bragging about it. I can back this claim up. I have seen the photo.

The Department of Fish and Games can easily make it to where ferrets are legal but they keep ignoring our pleas. We have put all of the paper work together that they have ever requested. We have offered to pay for anything that may cost DFG or the state any money. They have no reason to keep ignoring us and treating us ferret lovers like we don’t exist. Enough is enough!

There will be a lot of restrictions regarding owning ferrets. Like sterilizing them.

To the Governor of California,
For too long the residents of the state of California have been denied the right to have a pet ferret in their home. The reason being that it is feared that they will over breed and have an adverse effect on the state's agriculture and wildlife. However, this is an entirely unfounded notion, as that it has been reported by all fifty states that there are no feral populations of ferret living within them. Recently legislative efforts have been successful in both Michigan and Massachusetts and we, the undersigned, believe that it is time that Californian residents finally get their chance at ferret ownership as well. As shown by all other 48 states in which ferrets are already legal, they pose no threat of any kind to the state and by legalizing them, California has nothing to lose, only a group of lovable new furry friends to gain.

Sincerely,
