Help Protect California Detainees for a Law Ensuring that They Are Released into Safe Conditions

Mitrice Richardson was a beautiful, but mentally unstable, young woman who was released from the Lost Hills/Malibu sheriff's department at midnight without money, a car, or a cell phone. Almost a year later her remains were discovered within 2.5 miles of the sheriff's department.

Richardson's release proved irresponsible on the part of the department. She had no way to get home and her mental state was compromised. It is time to reexamine how detainees are released and ensure that they are only released into safe conditions. Ask that a "Mitrice's Law" be put in place statewide to make sure that when detainees are released, especially at night, they are mentally capable of ensuring their own safety and are provided with the tools to do so.
