Ban NYC Horse Drawn Carriages!

Everyone pictures a nice ride through Central Park and touring New York City in a horse drawn carriage, but what you don't know is that these horses suffer from lameness issues, poor living conditions, extreme working temperatures, stressful surroundings and a life of loneliness and abuse.
Carriage horses work long hours, 9 hours a day, 7 days a week, often in extreme tempuratures.  In summer these horses continue to work above 90 degrees, and in winter in freezing temperatures.   Horses have passed out and died because of these temperatures.  While on the job, the horses constantly stand on pavement, causing hoof problems and lameness.  When a horse refuses to work, the owner whips them until they obey.  When a days work is done, they go back to a stable, if it can even be called that.  The stables are multiple floors, with stalls not even big enough for the horse to lay down.  Feces and urine are everywhere, and stuffy air causes breathing problems in many horses.  They never get to run in a grassy field or truly relax like they should.  Horses are not adequately fed or groomed either.  When horses can no longer work, they are sent to slaughter to be served on European plates.
Many horses have died in accidents with cars and pedestrians in the busy streets.  Even the most bombproof horses will spook, endangering the lives of themselves and people.  PLEASE sign this petition of a modern Black Beauty tale of abuse.  These horses deserve loving homes!
