Bring Commuter Rail Back to NH!
Imagine landing at Manchester Airport and being able to hop on the train into Boston! Imagine landing at Logan Airport and hoping on a train at North Station and traveling to Southern New Hampshire and possibly to the beautiful New Hampshire Seacoast!
Well it's possible!
A railroad company with lines in Southern New Hampshire wants to make a deal with the state to run a commuter rail system from Concord to Boston.
Pan Am Railways CEO David A. Fink wants to start a short-term program to connect Concord, Manchester and Nashua to Boston, and possibly Manchester to the Seacoast. The pilot program would gauge interest in long-term ridership. It is contingent, however, upon using some of the federal economic stimulus money New Hampshire expects to receive for mass transit projects.
Christopher Morgan of the Bureau of Rail and Transit says there is not enough money for the project in the current version of the stimulus plan, but the U.S. Senate could add funding in its version.
The state Department of Transportation's wish list already includes $300 million earmarked to connect Concord, Manchester and Nashua to Lowell, Mass., and the Massachusetts public train system.
OUR GOAL: To gather as many peitions possible to push the NH Legislature and the Department of Transportation to launch this project!
Please help us make this a reality and bring comutter rail back to Southern New hampshire!
