MOVIE CAPTION AWARENESS

For years, movie fans have been able to enjoy the ultimate cinematic experience in movie theaters around the world. With the rapid advancment of technology, we are fortunate to discover new improvements to the movie watching experience in many ways. However, obtaining the ultimate movie experience is still a struggle to those in the hard-of-hearing/deaf community. As a hearing-impaired movie watcher myself, I am extremely grateful that some movie theaters offer captioning services during certain show-times. An unfortunate downfall to this benefit is, that closed captions are not available during movie premieres. This issue came to my attention when I attended the midnight movie premiere of The Twilight Saga: New Moon on November 20, 2009. Captions were not provided that night and therefore left me unaware of what really happened in the movie. A few weeks later, I was able to finally see the movie with captions and therefore had a much clearer understanding of it. It bothered me to know that I was not the only person who experienced this struggle. There are many hard-of-hearing/deaf moviegoers who would love to have captioning options available at all times and even during the premiere nights of their favorite movies. I encourage you to please sign this petition and help bring new insights to movie theaters everywhere. Together we can make a difference and change the future by providing the ultimate cinematic experience for those who are hard-of-hearing/deaf. Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,
