Corporate America is dropping the ball when it comes to making sure the products we use every day are safe.
More recalls aren't the answer -- we need to make sure that both corporations and our government are doing their jobs to ensure our products are safe before they hit store shelves.

I want CEOs to:
1. Test products: Use the same standards as the CPSC, FDA, NHTSA and other regulators. Allow an independent, third-party lab to verify the tests.
2. Eliminate dangerous chemicals: Ban dangerous chemicals like lead and phthalates and over time replace the toxic chemicals in all products with safe alternatives.
3. Stop blocking stronger rules and enforcement: Stop opposing needed reforms.
And to guarantee that all corporations do the right thing, I want Congress to:
* Put more cops on the beat: Hire more inspectors and give government agencies more authority to punish companies that break the rules.
* Stiffer penalties: Increase fines from $1.8 million to $100 million to deter companies from cutting corners.
We the undersigned ask that our law makers and corporations take a stand on product saftey. From dog food to spinach to lead in toys the number of high profile recalls this year has simply been appalling. We ask you both, our corporate and legislative leaders, to do what is right by your consumers and constituents.
