Don't Use Sex-Trafficking Strategies for Charity

The Girl Store is a presumably well-intentioned girl empowerment project that, for some utterly illogical reason, masquerades as a child pornography site. This is an example of misguided philanthropy. While the store may mean well, the imagery of young girls up for sale on an auction block and the sex-trafficking fetishizing language set the wrong tone and diminish the problem it attempts to solve.

Tell The Girl Store that its inappropriate treatment of human trafficking cheapens the issue and degrades the victims.
We, the undersigned, ask you to reconsider your organization's inappropriate branding. Though your organization is presumably well-intentioned, this is an example of misguided philanthropy. The imagery of young girls up for sale on an auction block and the sex-trafficking language set the wrong tone and diminish the problem you're attempting to solve. This inappropriate treatment of human trafficking cheapens the issue and degrades the victims.

We appreciate your mission to protect girls from being sold into sex slavery, but we ask that you change your concept to one that dignifies the horror of human trafficking, rather than one that fetishizes it.

Thank you for your consideration.
