In Africa alone, every 11 seconds a girl is violently harmed by female genital mutilation--that's over 8,200 girls a day.  It is time that we act as a global community and stand up against the forceful mutilation of girls' genitalia.  Sign this petition to show your support for a world without female genital mutilation.

We, the undersigned, call on you as part of a global community to work to end the meaningless practice of female genital mutilation.  Female genital mutilation is an archaic cultural practice, which is practiced for reasons shrouded in cultural and religious myth.
Female genital mutilation is a true worldwide epidemic.  It is time to remove the practice from the shadows and put it in the spotlight, so that the girls who risk being held down and mutilated have a voice.  It is their inherent right to have their genitals remain intact, and not injured or altered for non-medical reasons.
We call on you to speak out against female genital mutilation now.
