According to a reliable source from the University of Queensland around 15 dogs arrive in the vertrinary department every week. These dogs come from the Logan city council pound, the only council in the area to still participate in pound seizure.

These dogs, often loved pets who escaped and had homes that couldn't be found are anesthetized by the students then dissected or have a variety of surgeries performed on them. They are then killed before consciousness can be regained.

With so many non lethal and humane options for teaching such as interactive software and manikins, donations of already deceased animals from their owners and the very popular option of viewing and assisting surgeries in animal shelters and community spay/neuter projects. These alternate options also teach students about ethical treatment of animals and post operative care.

Logan city council must end pound seizure and switch to humane methods of teaching its students.
We the undersigned urge the Logan City Council animal management center and the University of Queensland to end the practice of pound seizure for surgical experimentation.

Logan City Council is the only council in south east Queensland that supplies animals for experimentation, a practice that is inhumane and causes distrust from the public who have become even more fearful of their pets getting loose. You should focus on rehabilitating and re homing the animals that are meant to rely on you for support and a chance at getting a new home.

The University of Queensland has a very wide variety of alternate options for their students such as computer simulations, preserved and donated cadavers, videos, models, and clinical supervision.

Thank you for reading and please consider ending the barbaric practice of pound seizure for teaching.
