End the Inhumane Treatment of Bradley Manning

Pfc. Bradley Manning is accused of passing thousands of secret government documents to WikiLeaks and has been charged with 'aiding the enemy', a capital offense. Since July, Manning has been held for in solitary confinement in a Marine Corps brig in Quantico, Va. He is being held as a maximum security detainee under a special set of restrictions intended to prevent self-injury, though his supporters say that he is not suicidal. Manning is confined to his cell 23 hours a day, with one hour to exercise in an empty room, and largely isolated from human contact. 250 of the US's most eminent legal scholars have signed a letter protesting the treatment of accused Wikileaks source Pfc. Bradley Manning: We need to put a stop to the inhuman treatment of Manning.

We the undersigned call for an end to his inhumane treatment of Pfc. Bradley Manning.  Manning is accused of passing thousands of secret government documents to WikiLeaks and has been charged with 'aiding the enemy', a capital offense. 250 of the US's most eminent legal scholars have signed a letter protesting Manning's treatment. The letter was published in the New York Review of Books and written by Bruce Ackerman of Yale Law School and Yochai Benkler of Harvard Law School. We hope that you will take this letter very seriously. The letter notes that Wikileaks has 'touched every corner of the world' and emphasizes that the whole world watches America and observes what it does, not what it says'---and the treatment of Bradley Manning does not speak well for us.
