End the NFL's Thanksgiving Tyranny - Lose the Legacy Teams

For years, two teams have been given perennial appearances at the two daytime football games that occur on Thanksgiving. The Detroit Lions and Dallas Cowboys are storied franchises, but from the point of view of enjoying exciting matchups, it's inevitable that one or both legacy teams will enter prolonged doldrums. That's currrently the case with the exorable Detroit Lions.

Ask the NFL to do the right thing, in this age of merit over entitlement, and move to a flexible system that features the most exciting matchups the league has to offer.

We the undersigned,

Request that the league abandon its legacy-based system for deciding on the games to be televised on the Thanksgiving holiday. The current system suffers when one or both of the legacy teams is in a prolonged slump. A new system based on merit would not only generate far more excitement among the fans, but better symbolize the essential spirit of the National Football League - where talent and hard work are the only paths to success.
