Ending Fat Phobia in the Fitness and Exercise Industry

For at least one hundred years we in the Western world have been encouraged to resize our bodies to fit a cultural ideal. Media has been used to portray imagery of women with bodies altered by means of compulsive dieting, fear of food, dangerous surgery and body sculpting.
While fitness for it's own sake is healthy and positive, spreading fat phobia is not helpful and a major contributor to eating disorders of all types.
It is time for the media, most notable those who produce fitness and exercise dvds, to  change the focus of their message from one of weight loss, burning fat, calories or achieving a sculpted look to one that promotes Health- at- Every- Size which includes reasonable and attainable fitness goals for EVERYBODY.
I call on all those who are interested in this pursuit to sign this petition.
All those who sign this pledge to end body hatred by refusing to support the fitness industry as it is. Begin to view exercise and fitness as a way to care for our body rather than beat it into shape. Learn about Health-At-Every-Size and learn to move our body in ways that are nurturing to it without negative messages coinciding. Learn to respect and care for the body we have with the goal of ending body hatred and eating disorders forever.
