Florida Gas Transmission Phase VIII Expansion Project
Florida gas Transmission, began plans on a major expansion Dec. 2007.
This new expansion of natural gas pipeline includes 568 of new pipe, removal of abandoned pipes, and several new compressor stations and upgrading of others from Alabama to South Florida.
Under Fl Statute 361.05 a project under the Federal Natural Gas Act has the right of EMINENT DOMAIN.
Areas of rural, wetlands, protected areas, protected species are in the way, without concern of Florida Gas Transmission. This also includes roads, homes, trees, some of which can not and will not be replaced. All this in the name of "progress". The main concern is the money they will earn at the completion of the project.
People work their entire lives to own a piece of land or a home that is called "THEIRS", and in an instant a large Corporation that stands to make millions of dollars can come in and take it away. This abuse at the hands of these large Corporations MUST STOP!!!
This project is one that affects me directly, since I live on the Florida gas pipeline. I am a firm believer that NO ONE should be forced to give up their land, homes whether with or without compensation if they chose not to.
In this case residents along the pipeline route are left with nothing.
Except a yearly tax bill on 75 foot wide or more strip of land they no longer legally own, nor can they plant or build a structure on it.
Then comes a safety issue of placing Natural gas pipelines closer to homes, waterways, etc. Some of these lines are years old. I know leaks are rare but....since this gas is odorless and colorless, how do we know this gas is not leaching into our soil, air and water?
Florida Gas has gone about this process of acquiring land, without proper information to land owners, local & county officials. Surveys have been done without consent of land owners, without any prior notice.
It is time people take notice to this, if we allow these large money hungry Corporations to continue we will have nothing left.
It is time to consider alternative sources of energy, that does not involve displacing families, land acquisitions and disruption of nature.
