Marriage is a sacred institution. It is as Cicero stated over 2000 years ago, "...the bond of our society".
When marriages fail, society fails. The disintegration of marriage is eroding our society, causing undue expense to our government, our businesses, and our communities. Divorce has left our citizens, (especially our children), vulnerable to poverty, physical and mental illness, addiction, criminality, suicide, unwed parenthood, and a continuous cycle of failing marriages.
We know, if we strengthen marriages, we strengthen the family, and when the family is strengthen, we strengthen our children, and we strengthen our communities.
We the undersigned, residents of Georgia, are in support of the North Atlanta Family Network's proposal to have the week of February 7th - February 14, 2010 proclaimed as Marriage Week in Georgia.
We believe that marriage is the foundation of our society, and that the disintegration of marriage is eroding our society, causing undue expense to our government, our businesses, and our communities. Divorce has left our citizens, (especially our children), vulnerable to poverty, physical and mental illness, addiction, criminality, suicide, unwed parenthood, and a continuous cycle of failing marriages.
We believe that this Proclamation will re-affirm marriage as the primary institution leading to strong families and communities throughout Georgia. In addition, this Proclamation will celebrate the strong commitment a man and woman makes to love and support one another.
This proclamation will also unite government agencies, businesses, churches, and communities in the quest to educate, equip, and empower those who are married, considering marriage, and engaged to be married, to enjoy healthy rewarding marriages.
