Mandate Legislative Responsibility

Whereas

Recent events made clear that traditional democratic process falls short in compelling elected representatives to abide by their oath and execute the duties of their office

Whereas

The lack of statute compelling performance of said duties allows for a minority faction to shut down the entire legislative process arbitrarily and indefinitely, and in doing so prohibits the majority from conducting the peoples business creating the unacceptable condition of taxation without representation.

Therefore

We the undersigned propose an amendment to the State Constitution of Wisconsin stipulating the following:

In the event an elected official refuses to perform the duties for which they were elected, for reasons other than medical or family emergency, for a period of 72 hours, that elected official knowingly and voluntarily resigns the office and all attending remuneration, perquisites, and privileges thereto.
