My Two Cents

The current budget debate in the Virginia General Assembly does not bode well for Public School Education in Virginia.  Specifically, the Roanoke City School system is faced with a likely budget deficit well in excess of 10 million dollars.  Providing an adequate education for urban students is a costly endeavor; providing a high-quality education for urban students costs even more.  The employees of Roanoke City Schools have worked diligently over the past years with less and less and have accomplished more and more in spite of ever increasing challenges.  Since our elected State officials are not willing to Keep their Promise to the children of Virginia, Roanoke must do whatever it takes to Keep the Promise to our Children.  Join the Roanoke Education Association today in supporting Court Rosen's proposal for a 2%/2year meal tax in Roanoke City that will generate much needed funds for Roanoke City Schools.  Also, join us March 20 at noon at the Martin Luther King Bridge in Downtown Roanoke and stand up for Public Education in Roanoke City at the Keep the Promise Education Rally.
